Scholarships
Each year, the Cyprus Children’s Fund awards scholarships to students pursuing full-time undergraduate or graduate studies at accredited American colleges and universities. Students are selected based on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, community involvement and financial need.
Applications are accepted from January 1st through April 30th of each year. Applicants will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. Awardees are notified in September.
Below are the scholarships offered and their corresponding criteria.
The Makarios Scholarship Fund – Theodore and Wally Lappas Awards
Established in 1983 and awarded to students with outstanding academic credentials and financial need.
The Makarios Scholarship Fund – Thomas and Elaine Kyrus Endowment
Established in 1984 and awarded to a student from the area of Morphou (or another area of Cyprus, if no applicants from the Morphou area).
The Makarios Scholarship Fund – Peter G and Bess Kolantis Decker Award
Established in 1996. A $1,000 award to a student with high scholastic aptitude.
The above three scholarships are awarded to students of Greek/Cypriot descent who were not born in the United States.
Cyprus Children’s Fund Scholarship Endowment
These scholarships are awarded to students of Greek/Cypriot descent, born in the United States or elsewhere, demonstrating excellent academic qualifications and financial need.
The Stanley Dru Award
Awarded to a Cypriot resident of Greek-Cypriot origin studying at an accredited college/university in the United States.
The Dennis Droushiotis Scholarship
Funded by the Cyprus-US Chamber of Commerce. This annual scholarship of $2,500 is awarded to a student of Cypriot descent pursuing a business-related field of study with a GPA of at least 3.0.
