S E New York – Savas C. Tsivicos, National Chairman and President of the Cyprus Children’s Fund and Alexandra Lappas, Chairperson of the Makarios Scholarship/Theodore & Wally Lappas Awards, and the members of the Scholarship Committees announce the several students as the 2006 Scholarship Award winners for a total sum of $19,000. The major award of the Cyprus Children’s Fund is the Makarios Scholarship/ Theodore & Wally Lappas Award created in 1983 by the great benefactors of the Cypriot children, the late Theodore & Wally Lappas. Their work is continued by their daughter, Alexandra Lappas. The Cyprus Children’s Fund Scholarship Endowment has broadened its activities through donations made by Stanley J. Dru, Honorary Consul of Cyprus in Phoenix, Arizona, E*Trade Financial, the George and Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation, Mr. Nicholas Bouras, Dimitrios and Georgia Kaloidis, John S. Latsis (USA), Inc., George Almiroudis and the A.G. Spanos Companies. Since 1983 a total of $300,000.00 was given out by the several Scholarship Foundations to enable meritorious students to pursue their academic endeavors.

and Despina Anastasiou Awards
These awards were established in 2004 to recognize the efforts of long-time supporters of the Cyprus Children’s Fund, Michael and Despina Anastasiou of New Jersey who have been instrumental in promoting the causes of scholarship and education. The following students are the four recipients. Christina Charalambidou , graduate studies in Music at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. Panayiotis Polykarpou, undergraduate studies at LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York. George Sergiou, undergraduate studies in Biology, Montclair State University, New Jersey. Stavros Zinonos, graduate studies in Mathematics at the City University of New York. The 2006-2007 Scholarship applications will be available to students of Greek and Greek Cypriot origin who are citizens of the United States, Greece and Cyprus and can be obtained from the Cyprus Children’s Fund. Eligible students must be currently enrolled or will be enrolled in September 2007 on a full-time basis in a U.S. accredited College or University.
